You can link your Kroger Plus Card to Indian Hill Schools with the new KRoger Community Rewards Program. As of May 1, Kroger is not requiring us to load our PTO gift cards anymore! But instead, we need only to link our existing Kroger Plus card with our preferred organization: Indian Hill PTO.
Here’s How:
Go to http://www.kroger.com/mykroger/Pages/community_rewards.aspx to start.
PTO officials have created an online account with Kroger for their coupons. Find the ‘Sign In’ and click ‘Cincinnati’ to follow the prompts to enter Indian Hill PTO (NPO number 80244) to confirm this choice.
If you have yet to register your Kroger Plus Card online, you must ‘Create an Account’ and follow the required prompts before proceeding with your Community Rewards choice.
Once linked, whenever you scan your Kroger Plus Card, you are supporting our schools! The amount we receive is based upon a percentage of all qualifying purchases across the city. There is a $1.25 million cap each quarter, so participation is key! Please tell your friends and family and neighbors!
We greatly appreciate Kroger’s generosity, and we thank you in advance for your participation in this Program on behalf of our schools!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 272-4703.

The IHHS Spring Choral Concert will be held May 1, 2012, at 7:30 pm in the IHHS auditorium.
This year’s Spring Choral Concert is going to be a very special event and something quite different from the past IHHS concerts. The choral and band departments are combining to perform selections from Carmina Burana. This is a huge and popular piece of music that has been used in many movies and commercials. The IHHS music department has never attempted anything like this, so they are extremely excited.
The composer, Carl Orff, intended the piece to also include dance. Most performances of Carmina Burana are performed without dancers. IHHS is probably going to be one of very few high schools to ever combine chorus, band, and dancers for this production!
Mr. Jay Goodlett, will be choreographing some of the Carmina selections. Jay is a former member of the Cincinnati Ballet and who has also danced in many different countries. There will be 2 featured soloists. The baritone soloist will be Mr. Philip Clary, one of the vocal music directors at IHHS. Ms. Angela Powell-Walker will be the soprano soloist. Besides singing professionally all over the world, Angela was recently hired as the new artistic director for the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati.
Thanks so much for your help and support of the IHHS music program!

Thank you to the generosity of the Indian Hill Boosters, the students of IHES will enjoy new audio equipment for school assemblies and new playground equipment (i.e., sports balls and soccer goals). This gift provided new equipment worth a combined total of nearly $2800.
The next recognition assembly is scheduled for Friday, 4/20, at 2:20 pm. Students and teachers are excited to try the new audio equipment.
Thank you, Boosters!
Sumner Colohan, grade 5, placed as a state finalist in a literacy contest that was introduced to some of our IHES students. The Letters About Literature Contest asks students to write a letter to an author that has touched their lives in some way. The letter must not retell the story, but explain how the book affected some aspect of the reader’s life. Students are asked to make text-to-life connections. The letters are judged on: exposition (the writer’s use of language skills, organization and grammar), content (the writer’s achievement in addressing the contest theme), and the writer’s voice (the writer’s style and originality of expression).
Over 59,000 letters were submitted to this national contest (1200 in Ohio) sponsored by the Library of Congress. Sumner’s letter was one of 24 in Ohio that made it to Round Three of the contest.
Sumner should be very proud of his work!
Sumner’s accomplishments were highlighted in the Community Press:

Three of our students have won first place in the city-wide architectural design competition for their design and construction of an original bridge. Fifth graders Tyler Johnson, Ellie Rabenold, and Libby Miller’s design entitled, The PiviTEL Bridge, won the award for Most Successful Use of Green Design Elements. They will be honored this weekend at the Downtown Public Library.
Their engineering minds devised a way to devise support for a cable-stayed bridge (using a plastic disk, a nail, some clay and a water bottle) that also pivots! They created raised land structures to show how their bridge is supported underwater.
Congratulations to them!
